First Annual Celina Garden Club Tour
The Stephens Garden
1741 Gentle Way, Prosper
A panther guards the front of Mary Ana Stephens' home in Prosper. The beautiful sculpture is one of many that Mary Ana has incorporated into her lush garden. Placed throughout the yard is Olde World statuary, angels, cherubs, metal art, birdbaths, with St. Francis watching out for the animals and birds that visit the space. Follow the path from the driveway through the Wisteria covered arbor to the backyard. The path winds around the covered porch-patio combination, complemented by a fireplace. Mary Ana says this is her favorite morning spot. With coffee in hand she enjoys the sound of the pool's waterfall and looks at what she and husband Jim have created with help from son Jon, owner of Texas Seasons Nursery in Celina. From the porch explore a gazebo with an outdoor cooking area and additional seating for meals. The flagstone path heads toward the back of the property and a playhouse sized garden shed. The far back bed by the garden shed is Mary Ana's "hodgepodge of stuff". She has incorporated roses, perennials, grasses, 4 rescued trees, and whatever will survive the highly salted water in Prosper. Five years ago the Stephens built on what was initially flat pasture with nary a bloom in site. It has been transformed into an exhibit of art and nature. |
