First Annual Celina Garden Club Tour

The Harvey Garden

105 Shawnee Trail, Celina, TX

An oval, two tiered fountain focuses on the silver doors into Janet and Andy Harvey's modern home. The fountain area combines succulents and ornamental grasses. Gray Texas Sage accents the dove, charcoal black and glass of the house, with dark green Oaks and huge Oleanders giving contrast. Janet's Gerbera Daisies, some 10 years old, were planted when she and her husband transformed a cow pasture into the Preston 455 development. Bright Crape Myrtles, throw a splash of color into the mix. A new shade garden is tucked by the side of the house. She is proudest of the "I did it myself" bed with hand me down rocks, Crape Myrtles, Lantana, Knock Out Roses and succulents along the garage.

Water is again featured in the back with a spraying fountain and a simple pool which leads the eye to the 6 acre lake beyond. Scattered beds sit under the Bois d'Arc trees edging the lake. Greens, whites and cobalt blues are the standout colors showing Janet's artistic flair. A painter of flowers, she began gardening to spread her love of vibrant colors to the outside. Janet's art is featured on the tickets and brochures for the Garden Tour. Her pots, as exciting as the plants, with cobalt, verdant greens, and yellows, ring the pool. Raised beds are highlighted with Asparagus Fern, Caladium, and Janet's favorite Gerberas. A cobalt bird bath nestles under a Yaupon tree. Bright accents of lime green Potato Vine coupled with yellow Esperanza and a prized magenta Bougainvillea are all part of the palette. The mosaic table tops and stepping stones were done by Janet.
